10 West Gallery artists Michael O’Guinn and Dan Nimmo juxtapose their talents in a
month-long exhibition at Helena Mason Gallery featuring O’Guinn’s large abstract
paintings and Nimmo’s rustic-yet-modern reclaimed wood benches.
O’Guinn’s work is inspired by the abstract expressionist artists of the 50’s and 60’s
New York School, such as Motherwell, de Kooning and Pollock and splash across his
canvases with high energy and movement. His style includes more thoughtful
approaches as well and encompasses conceptual work, such as his “Illicit Merger”
series, which explores the intrusion of stark white gesso onto moody blues and
greens.
Dan Nimmo’s reclaimed wood benches have a mass and weight that glorifies the
beauty of the wood itself, whether it be knarled and textural or smooth and linear of
grain. His angular, minimalist designs bring a contemporary/modern feel to the
furniture, which are suitable for use both indoors and out.
